What you're looking at
Episode 9 of Zatsu Tabi -That's Journey- (2025), the anime about a burned-out manga artist who lets online polls choose her trips, heads to Aomori and rides the Hakkoda Ropeway, which climbs Mt. Tamoyachi in about 10 minutes. The show's official episode map also lists Mt. Hakkoda and Yachi Onsen, and the Anime Tourism Association's 2026 list names the ropeway as the work's setting.
Getting there
From JR Aomori Station, JR Bus runs to the ropeway in about 60 minutes in summer and about 80 minutes in winter. In winter, road closures mean the buses only run between Aomori and Sukayu Onsen, via the ropeway.
Before you go
- Wind decides your day. The ropeway stops in winds of 25 m/s or more, or in abnormal weather.
- Hours: 9:00 to 16:20, or 9:00 to 15:40 in winter (ropeway, 2026).
- Mind the November shutdown. It's closed November 8 to 20, 2026, for maintenance and then power works.
- Dress for winter early. The anime's own map warns that it gets very cold from around October and November, and the weather changes fast.
Also nearby
- Sukayu Onsen, about 15 minutes from the ropeway by JR bus.
- Yachi Onsen, a hidden spa in the Hakkoda foothills, also on the episode 9 map.
