Sound! Euphonium's Uji Is a Real Town With a Real Rally, and a Memorial to Respect

Kitauji's hometown is author Ayano Takeda's own, an easy hop from Kyoto. Keihan's autumn stamp rally is running right now.

What you're looking at

Sound! Euphonium (2015) is set in Uji, author Ayano Takeda's hometown just south of Kyoto. Keihan Uji Station, the Agata Festival and Daikichiyama (also called Mt. Buttoku) appear throughout the series, and Uji Bridge, the old crossing over the Uji River, is a stop on Keihan's 2026 rally of the series' settings.

On right now

Keihan Railway's "Sound! Euphonium 2026 Autumn" runs from September 1 to December 20, 2026:

  • Stamp rally, part one (September 1 to October 31): the Igawa pumping station, Uji Bridge and the Daikichiyama observation deck.
  • Part two (November 1 to December 20): the Uji River bank by the water-pipe bridge, Agata Shrine and Kohata Shrine.
  • Also: life-size panels at Uji and Chushojima stations, a wrapped Kyoto Keihan Bus with six collab stops, and a wrapped Ishiyama Sakamoto Line train through March 31, 2027.

The series' final film, part two, opened in Japan on September 11, 2026, so expect more fans than usual.

Getting there

From JR Kyoto Station, the JR Nara Line Miyakoji Rapid gets to JR Uji in about 17 minutes. On Keihan, it's about 14 minutes from Gion-Shijo to Chushojima, then 15 minutes on the Uji Line. Uji Bridge is just south of Keihan Uji Station.

Before you go

  • Keep it down near homes. Keihan asks rally participants to keep voices and noise low in residential areas, especially at night.
  • Uji has a memorial. "Kokorozashi wo Tsunagu Hi," remembering the victims of the 2019 Kyoto Animation arson attack, was installed in July 2024 in a park about five minutes northwest of Keihan Uji Station. Kyoto Animation has asked visitors not to leave flowers or other offerings there.
  • Don't go looking for the studios. In 2020, Kyoto Animation asked people not to visit the area of its former Studio 1, which is in Kyoto's Fushimi Ward.
  • Schools stay off limits. We haven't verified a real-world model for Kitauji High School. Whatever fan maps say, don't visit a school.

Also nearby

  • The Daikichiyama observation deck, a short hike up, for the view over Uji that the series keeps returning to.
  • Agata Shrine, about 10 minutes south of Keihan Uji Station. Its Agata Festival, held every June 5, appears in the series.
